What quote inspires you?
“Try not. Do or do not. There is no try.” – Yoda

Blue, because it’s brilliant and beautiful.

What is your favorite piece of furniture in your classroom?
The floor. As a Montessori teacher, I sit on the floor to teach my lessons.

How would you describe your teaching style?
I am a Montessorian. I encourage my students to be independent thinkers and learners. I encourage them to be unafraid to make mistakes and to learn from each other.

When did you know you wanted to become a teacher?
I knew I wanted to be a teacher when I was a child. I realized I wasn’t graceful enough to be a ballerina or scientific enough to be an astronaut.

What is your favorite lesson/unit to teach?
My most favorite lesson to teach is Planet Gods. In my lesson, I introduce the mythology of how the planets got their names from the Greek and Roman gods. Then, I play clips from “The Planets” by Holst to see if the students can determine how well he represented the attributes of the planets to the personalities of the gods in his music. My personal favorite is “Mars”.

What is your greatest challenge in teaching?
Finding balances.

If you could have a career other than a teacher, what would it be?
Actor, stage manager, camp director, horse wrangler, college professor, photographer, author, playwright

What’s something your students probably don’t know about you?
I’m a Lifetime Member of Girl Scouts and earned my Gold Award.

If a student were to remember something about your class 50 years from now, what do you hope it would be?
I hope they remember how much I love them.

What are your three favorite books?
1. Little Women
2. Chrysanthemum
3. Harry Potter series

Which do you prefer:

pen or pencil

Is there anything else you want to tell us?
1. When I was 20, I saw the Spice Girls in concert.
2. I’m obsessed with Star Wars and Xena.
3. The chipmunk is my spirit animal.
4. If I could live in an alternate universe, I would live in Narnia.
